I recently had a very disappointing experience with the pharmacy at Life Pharmacy Al Qusais 1216 in Al Mazoon building regarding a simple order that should have been straightforward. Before placing the order, I asked for the price per item through the pharmacy’s WhatsApp ordering channel. The pharmacy initially sent a photo of the item showing a price of AED 9.45 AED. Since I had purchased the same product from Life Pharmacy shortly before at a lower price, I asked them to check whether there was any current offer. They then confirmed that the price after the offer was AED 6.09 per bottle. I informed them that I wanted 6 bottles and clearly mentioned that I would keep AED 36.54 ready (6.09 × 6). At no point during the conversation did anyone indicate that this total was incorrect. The delivery was scheduled for 7:30 PM and this arrangement was made about two hours in advance. However, at around 7:20 PM — only 10 minutes before the scheduled delivery — I was informed that the delivery would be delayed until approximately 8:00 PM. When the rider arrived and I was about to pay, he asked for approximately AED 42. I explained that the pharmacy had quoted AED 6.09 per bottle and that the expected total was AED 36.54. The rider contacted the pharmacy and passed the phone to me. A lady pharmacist explained that the higher amount was due to VAT. However, VAT in the UAE is 5%, which would not increase AED 36.54 to approximately AED 42. When I asked for clarification, I was asked, “Do you want the order or should we cancel it?”without the pricing discrepancy being explained, which made the interaction feel dismissive rather than focused on resolving the issue. Shortly afterward, another male staff member took over the call without introducing himself and asked me to wait. I was placed on hold and the call was then disconnected! He later called me back and explained that the price per bottle was actually AED 6.90, not AED 6.09 as previously quoted. Even with that price, the total for six bottles would be AED 41.40, which still did not match the amount requested by the rider. I was then told the remaining difference was due to a bag charge, which had not been mentioned earlier. I explained that I did not require a bag, but was told that it had to be included. Given the multiple pricing inconsistencies, the delivery delay, and the difficulty in obtaining a clear explanation, I decided to cancel the order. During the call, no apology was offered for the confusion or inconvenience. After the incident, I received a brief WhatsApp message stating that the correct price was AED 6.90 and apologizing for the inconvenience. Overall, the experience involved multiple price changes, inconsistent explanations, a delivery delay despite advance scheduling, and communication that made resolving the issue unnecessarily difficult. I hope Life pharmacy reviews its order handling, pricing communication, and customer service processes to avoid similar situations for other customers.
